Review WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY? by YLVIS @Ylvis @simonschuster

What Does the Fox Say?

Book Description

 December 10, 2013
 4 - 8  P - 3

Do you know what the fox says? Based on the hugely popular YouTube video with more than 200 million views, this picture book is packed full of foxy fun.

Dog goes woof. Cat goes meow. Bird goes tweet and mouse goes squeak…
But what does the fox say?

The lyrics of Ylvis’s YouTube sensation “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)” meet Svein Nyhus’s playful illustrations in this irresistibly entertaining read-aloud picture book.

About the Author
Ylvis is made up of brothers Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker. Besides being talented musicians and pretty good dancers, the brothers have worked as comedians and talk-show hosts in their home country of Norway for many years. Their music video “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)” appeared on YouTube on September 3, 2013. Within a few months, it had become a global phenomenon, with more than 200 million views. Now, the brothers have taken their fun lyrics and have paired them with Svein Nyhus’s playful illustrations for a whole new take on the fox’s unique way of speaking. What Does the Fox Say? is Ylvis’s first picture book. Learn more at Ylvis.com.

Christian Løchstøer cowrote the lyrics of "The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)" with Ylvis. He is managing editor of Tonight with Ylvis and has been working with the duo since 2007.

Svein Nyhus is a Norwegian author and illustrator of children’s books. He lives in Tonsberg, Norway. Visit his website at SveinNyhus.blogspot.com.

MY THOUGHTS
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT

If you always wanted to sing along with What Does The Fox Say?, but were too embarrassed to do it out loud, now is your chance!  Don't buy this book for the silly words, buy this book for the amazing illustrations!  There are highly stylized pictures to go along with the lyrics that reflect the promise of the video but done so much better.  I can just picture some grandparent reading this out loud and wondering what they heck the authors were trying to get across.  Yes, the words are really silly, but aren't most books for kids?

Disclosure  I received this book from the publisher at no charge and in no way influenced my review.  If you are considering purchasing this book or anything else from Amazon, please use my link above since I earn a very small percentage of the sale which helps pay for shipping my giveaways!

  1. When I saw this book floating around on Pinterest I thought it was a joke. Now I must track down a copy or two or three. I think this book would be a super cute Christmas gift especially for those in love with the song.

  3. So glad you reviewed this, Mary! I shared the vid a few months ago and thought it was hilarious. Just shared a FB post about the book yesterday. What a way to create an instant best-seller - and thank goodness the book proves to be as good.

S&S does some of the best humorous pic-lit around, IMO - e.g. "Battle Bunny", and Bruce Eric Kaplan's books. <3!

(P.S. first comment deleted for typos. Oops. :))
