Meet Sammy Yuen, cover designer for Nobody by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
When I start a cover
design, I read a few chapters of the manuscript for a sense of the book’s tone.
Is it funny, scary, serious, etc.? Nobody is fast-paced and
full of tension like an action movie, so I wanted to capture that intensity on
the cover. My concept for the art was to blur the line between being the target
and being the assassin. The image is ambiguous, so you aren’t sure whether the
girl in the crosshairs is the main character, Claire, or a target.
Movie trailers are a great
inspiration for me. Essentially, trailers have the same purpose as book covers—to
hint at the plot and get you into the mindset of the story. My goal for a book
cover is to provide the appropriate tone and atmosphere using color, texture,
and lighting. I always try to leave room for interpretation and let the viewer
fill in the scene with his or her own visuals to bring the cover to life.

Sammy Yuen is a freelance
print designer and illustrator/interactive designer who lives in New York City.
He has designed over 30 best-selling book covers for authors, including Ellen
Hopkins, Orson Scott Card, and Shannon Hale.

The cover reveal is of Myra McEntire's last book in the Hourglass Trilogy due out this July – Infinityglass. To celebrate the Big Reveal each stop on the blog tour has a “piece” of the cover. By stopping by each blog on the tour, you can collect all the pieces and submit the final image by 10pm on 2/12 to qualify to win the Triple Threat Cover Reveal Grand Prize – a library of works from Jennifer, Kate and Myra. Here are the deets:
* There are a total of 15 pieces to the puzzle - one for each stop on the tour.
* Collect all 15 pieces to reveal the cover of Infinityglass by Myra McEntire (pubbing in July)
