REVIEW: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Description

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she’s made it out of the bloody arena alive, she’s still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what’s worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss’s family, not her friends, not the people of District 12. Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins’s groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

MY THOUGHTS
ABSOLUTELY ADORED IT

There is a reason the books in this series are best sellers.  The conclusion is worth every cent and exactly what I was expecting.  I think enough time has passed and everyone knows the ending.  Katniss finds she is a pawn of the resistance movement and accepts it and uses it to her advantage.  I was surprised that she ends up living in peace with Peeta.  There it is out.  I was a Team Gale girl all the way.  There is not much to write about this one that hasn't been written.  Yes, you need to read this series.

  1. Glad you liked it. I was Team Undecided (or Team Katniss?) until the end, where Katniss made her choice and gave her reasons which I agree with. I thought it was the best choice for her, what did you think?

  2. I LOVE this trilogy! It's one of my favorites! After the first book, I was completely torn between Peeta and Gale, just like Katniss. But from Catching Fire onwards, I became Team Peeta all the way.

I like the way the trilogy ended as in what happened, but I just think it was weirdly written. Katniss just stated what happened, instead of there being a "feel good" moment to end it. And I think it's so bizarre that she went months without seeing Peeta or Gale after she was sent back to District 12. And that neither her mom nor Gale ever tried to see her. They just left the Capitol and went to different districts. That's her mom! And how could Gale just give up on her like that?

  3. You review was right on. I read the book twice. the first time I was a little unsatisfied by the ending, but the second time something clicked. My take was that Gale, after the "war", was dissatisfied with Katniss and her lack of bloodthirsty revenge. Gale had a lot of that! He was behind the bombs dropped on the kids and was tottaly for as much bloodshed as possible to eradicate the capital citizens and make them pay for generations of oppression. Katniss was sick of the blood shed and wanted to spare as many people as she could from heartache. It made sense to me that after she wwnt back to 12 her and Gale were out of touch. She was wounded too deep emotionaly and Gale was the perfect millitary man and government figure. Her mother did give her the letter and they talked on the phone, her mother had too many bad connectins to 12 to return there. I was alwyas team Peeta. But felt at times Katniss treated him, like she said, in a manipulative way. In the end there was no one else she could have turned too. They were bound by the games and the war. The endeing was what it should be.Could Katniss ever really be happy?

  4. I just hope they get the movie cast and on the way. I really want to see how Hollywood will pull this off. I think Katniss only ever wanted peace and she compromised to get that. I guess it was a good compromise though.

  5. I just finished this one last week and I've been trying to figure out just how to write my review since then. All I keep thinking is "Wow, that was intense." But it was sooo good.

  6. Love this trilogy as well! How did you wait this long to read the last one? Kids and I talked about end. Epilogue v. that final word. How powerful that would have been too. Kind of like HP though, you just don't want it to end.

  7. I recently bought the book through http://www.mybantu.com/ and I loved it.
I don't usually read stuff like this - I mean its a big change from the previous books, focusing less on Katniss's personal struggle and more on the war, on the people's desire for change, on the choices both sides make to win and the price everyone has to pay.

I loved the gravity with which the books is written - everything from Peeta's mental trauma, to the bombing of the hospital and the Capitol woman whom Katniss inadvertently kills - it all makes the situation seem more real.

As for the ending, it was it tells a story in itself - Katniss despite how much Katniss hated the Games and the murder of innocents, the events at the end of the war, govern her final vote on the 76th Hunger Games.

All in all, a poignant ending to an amazing series.
