$50 Giveaway THIRD DAUGHTER by SUSAN KAYE QUINN @susankayequinn @toobusyreading

Third daughter  Third Daughter by Susan Kaye Quinn Skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue... and, of course, kissing. The Third Daughter of the Queen wants her birthday to arrive so she'll be free to marry for love, but rumors of a new flying weapon may force her to accept a barbarian prince's proposal for a peace-brokering marriage. Desperate to marry the charming courtesan she loves, Aniri agrees to the prince's proposal as a subterfuge in order to spy on him, find the weapon, and hopefully avoid both war and an arranged marriage to a man she does not love. Third Daughter is the first book in the The Dharian Affairs Trilogy (Third Daughter, Second Daughter, First Daughter). This steampunk-goes-to-Bollywood (Bollypunk!) romance that takes place in an east-Indian-flavored alternate world filled with skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue. And, of course, kissing.   From the author of the bestselling Mindjack Trilogy, The Dharian Affairs is a new series filled with equal doses of action-adventure and romance, meant to appeal to fans of Mindjack.   NOMINATED for the Illinois Librarian's "Soon to be Famous Author Project" wherein librarians hope to discover local authors whose "work will jump off the page for readers." "Third Daughter is vividly breathtaking. Quinn delivers royal intrigue, exotic locations, and sweeping romance. Not to be missed!" - Pavarti K. Tyler, author of Shadow on the Wall   "Susan Kaye Quinn writes characters that leap off the page... Incredibly well written, the vivid setting was crisp in my mind... As the plot raced on, I was cursing real life for not letting me just sit glued to my kindle, punching the touch screen to get to the next page." - Tiffany on Goodreads

Excerpt

A lone two-wheeled surrey ambled out of the shadows of the Samirian embassy and headed toward her dark corner of the Queen’s estate. Aniri held her breath and silently cursed the full two-moon night. If the carriage came much closer, the occupants would surely see her clinging to the side of the palace like a spider on her thread. The six-hooved beast pulling the surrey slowed as it neared the giant stone statue of Devkasera. The mother goddess of ancient Dharia loomed larger-than-life, threatening the carriage with a sword and a scroll—the powers of destruction and creation—clasped in two of her six hands. The Queen loved the ancient traditions, so the goddess held a place of respect in the middle of the palace lawns. Aniri preferred the clean streets and steam-driven inventions of modern Dharia to the unwashed feet and mystic religion of her country’s past, but that didn’t stop her from sending a silent prayer to Devkasera—for invisibility for herself or perhaps a sudden loss of sight by the persons in the carriage.

$25 Giveaway Interview EKHO by MARIE D JONES @MarieDJones @toobusyreading

EKHO Cover newEKHO by Marie D. Jones

Ten-year-old Elvis Jones is tired of being picked on, taunted, and teased by the bullies at his elementary school, so he does what any smart, technologically brilliant kid his age would do: he creates EKHO, the Evil Kid Hunting Organization, a sophisticated network of kid spies and secret agents that utilize a variety of cool gadgets to stay one step ahead of the enemy – the bullies. They hire kids, make them swear allegiance to the organization, and train them as Commandos, Privates, and Elite Spies. As kids rise through the ranks, the missions, posted on an encrypted EKHO website, require more smarts and skill, especially when the bullies form their own counterspy group called DEKE (Destroy EKHO Kids Everywhere). It’s all in good fun, until the kids of EKHO must put their pretend skills to use for far more serious, and dangerous, missions. As field agents come across evidence of more sinister forces, they now have to deal with the strange, weird, and the unknown as they look for the truth about the bizarre and creepy threats to their school, their families, and their own lives. They experience betrayal, intrigue, infiltration and counter-espionage as well as teachers and adults who act more mysterious with each passing day, which leaves Elvis and his EKHO team wondering: who can you trust when the person standing next to you might not be entirely human?

PLEASE WELCOME MARIE TO BOOKHOUDS ya

1.       Do you have a secret talent?

Yes, I can speed read. I get to read more books that way. I taught myself to speed read after reading some articles on certain techniques you can use
to read faster. I can read a 250 page book in an hour or two. I don't do it often, because it gives me a headache, but sometimes it comes in handy!

2.       Is there a song that really reminds you of your book?

Because "EKHO" is all about finding your "inner champion" in a way, I always think of that old song by Queen, "We Are the Champions." Most kids won't know who Queen is nowadays, but chances are they've heard the song a million times in TV commercials and movie soundtracks! "We are the champions, my friend…and we'll keep on fighting til the end…" really makes me think of the kids of EKHO and how they were brave and kept on fighting against bullying and became their own champions, as well as champions to other kids like them.

3.       What was the easiest thing about writing this book?

The easiest thing about writing "EKHO" was knowing that it might help kids who are being teased or bullied or taunted learn that they have the power to take back control, whether it be doing something like the kids of EKHO did, or going to a parent or supervisor, or learning ways to defend themselves and become more confident in handling difficult people and situations. It was also great fun getting to add in the extra science fiction angle that will develop over Book Two and Book Three, knowing how it will surprise readers and really test the kids of both EKHO and DEKE. Oh, wait til you see what they have coming!!!

4.       Is there a word you love to use?

It's hard to pick just one word, but I think the color "periwinkle" is hilarious and will try to sneak that into stories if I can!!! Periwinkle…it just sounds so…SILLY! Not the color itself, but the word. I mean, who thought of naming that color "periwinkle?" What were they thinking? I also like "plethora." It's a fun word to use instead of always saying things like "a lot," or "many," or "a number of…"  The cool thing about words it that you have a "plethora" of choices to describe one thing!

5.       Any real or imaginary pets?

We have a real cat named Lucy who is very old, but still acts like a kitten sometimes. And we just got a chihuahua mix at a local shelter named Maya. She has a crooked tooth, so we all call her "Snaggletooth."  No imaginary pets, because they are too hard to clean up after!!!!

$50 Giveaway MUSE UNEXPECTED by V C BIRLIDIS @vbirlidis @toobusyreading #BookBlast

Muse UnexpectedMuse Unexpected

"We're Muses. Not vampires, not fairies, not werewolves. We're Muses." Sophie was sure her mother had reached an epic level of crazy. ‘We're Muses?' She thought Muses were lame, not to mention she found the idea ridiculous. However, Sophie couldn't explain away her physical transformation that made Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries look like a bad Walmart make-over, not to mention why her mood swings triggered an uncontrollable ability to shoot powerful bursts of energy out of her hands. Sophie soon realizes modern day Muses have evolved into powerful guardians of humankind, tasked with keeping mortals on the right path and the original Olympians locked away from the world. But old hatreds don't die easily, especially for immortal enemies that have an eternity to plot and gather their forces. Well aware of the Fates' foretelling of another Olympian war, and a young Muse that would rise up as a warrior and defeat them, the Olympians have vowed to either possess Sophie or destroy her. Either way, they will make sure everyone associated with their imprisonment will reap an eternal damnation in the Underworld, leaving the Olympians to restore Mount Olympus and force humankind into a future of never-ending servitude and misery.

  Praise for Muse Unexpected

"Ripe with conflict, skin-crawling creepy that is sprinkled with a wonderful sense of humor and a plot fraught with horrific danger in every step taken by Sophie, this book should be on the top of everyone's must read list. Simply put, I loved it and can't wait for book 2 to come out." ~Olive (Amazon Review)

"I remember learning about mythology & Greek gods in elementary school....boring! Well, this fantastic book takes everything you thought about gods/mythology and turns it on it's ear, sort of like "Wicked" did to the "Wizard of OZ". At times funny at times gruesome and scary, this story definitely kept my interest. I loved the way the writer made the gods "human". I also liked the subtle, blink and you'll miss them hints sprinkled throughout the story. Don't let the young adult genre scare you away. This is an engaging story that can be enjoyed by all. Can't wait for the next one!!!!" ~Paula (Amazon Review)
